Brand & Visual Refresh

OfferUp’s original logo, app icon, and overall brand design were in need of a visual refresh. As one of the lead designers on the project, I refined the shapes, spacing, and visual balance to modernize and strengthen the existing identity. Alongside the new branding, our team refreshed the app’s interface to align with the updated visual system, resulting in a cohesive and contemporary look across all platforms.

Following up on the rebrand, our design team extended the updated visual language into the product experience. This effort evolved into the groundwork for OfferUp’s first design system, unifying components and patterns across platforms.

Moodboarding & Explorations

We began the design process by creating moodboards to explore where OfferUp’s brand should sit on the spectrum between relaxed and corporate. Through this exploration, we aimed to define a visual direction that felt approachable yet trustworthy. The goal was to refresh the branding with a tone that felt fresh, friendly, and distinctly neighborly, reflecting the community-driven nature of the platform.

We explored several out‑of‑the‑box visual directions to see how different styles and treatments could extend across product and marketing channels. This exploration helped us identify opportunities where we could create expressive brand moments.

Building a new design system

The app’s visual refresh involved updating existing components and creating new ones, laying the groundwork for OfferUp’s first official design system. This foundation helped drive consistency and a cohesive visual experience across both iOS and Android platforms. I collaborated closely with engineers to ensure that the coded components accurately reflected the design specifications and maintained visual consistency throughout implementation.

Updated iconography

I led the redesign of OfferUp’s iconography system, shifting from a heavy bubbly icon‑based font to a simplified, friendly set. For the new system, I focused on clean, legible forms that remain easy to identify at small sizes while supporting a more modern, consistent visual language. Below is a small sample from a larger body of work.

Updated illustrations

I developed OfferUp's illustration style to be used across all platforms and marketing. We wanted the illustration to be personable and approachable. I created documentation with illustration principles & guidance for designers on the marketing team to reference. Below is a small sample of a larger body of work.

Future Illustration Style Exploration

As OfferUp began expanding its partnerships with businesses and professional sellers, the visual language needed to evolve to reflect the company’s growth. I explored a more sophisticated and versatile illustration style, one that felt mature yet still approachable that balanced friendliness with professionalism.
